Masculine fashion has really opened up in a very
accessible way in the past few years. For instance, it used to be bad boys only
that wore earrings, but now men wearing earrings is socially acceptable in all
but the most conservative of settings. It can be hard, however, to pick out
earrings if you've always been a “man's man” sort of guy. There's a lot to be
said about earrings, even if you're talking about a relatively narrow category
like men's earrings.
So, there are a few basic types of earrings to look at.
The first, and most common among the masculine set, are studs. These are simple
and straightforward, just a face and a post. The post, of course, is the part
that actually goes into your ear, and the face is the part that people looking
at you will see. These come in a wide variety of styles. They can verge on the
traditionally hyper-masculine, with things like skulls and bullets and
wrenches, to a more refined style, like solitaires. A solitaire stud is the
earring you're probably most familiar with. They are simply a large-looking
diamond on a post.
The next type of earring we're going to look at is the
hoop. Of course, most masculine jewelry sections carry very tiny hoops called
“huggies.” The inside diameter of these is around pencil-sized, so they're very
subtle. They come in all sorts of materials and shades, from dark and polished
wood to bright gold studded with line gemstones. They can be made in
traditional post-style or clip-ons, for those not sure about piercing their
ears just yet.
The more accepting
modern modes of male fashion are opening broader avenues of expression for your
average guy on the street. It's easier than ever to find classic and stylish
earrings for men, even at your local jewelry store. The number of styles is
ever-expanding, too. It's no longer just diamond solitaires and giant
alternative plug, but now a broader and less radical style for your everyday
human.
