Said to be ordained by God to rule the United Kingdom, the British Monarchy is idolized, served, honored and even jeered by its subjects. Such a stately declaration leaves many in awe of their position and others perturbed. Yet among all the arguments and opposing opinions, we often forget that the British Monarchy is made up of people just as human as we are. To truly understand that they are just like everyone else we need to start at a surprising place: the royal jewels of England.
Thinking of royal jewels, we flash to pictures of opulent crowns, dazzling jewelry, and stately scepters. While these compose a long list of items that most mortal men will never touch, do we think to look past this barrier to try and really understand the significance of them? For instance, Queen Alexandra’s Crown has 8 arches; this style native to her homeland of Denmark and Queen Victoria’s tiny crown, exquisite in every way, was made especially for her to wear over her mourning veil. While these pieces are lavish and seem to many to be over indulgent, they all say same the thing; everyone is human and we all have homes and loved ones that we care for.
For all us regular Joes, may we learn to hold our opinions in confidence until we conjure the right words to address one another, no matter how big or small, as humans on the same plane of existence.
