Learn The Basics of Loose Diamonds

Are you familiar with the four C's of loose diamonds? Since you are probably not a professional jeweler, then I would venture to guess the answer is no! This is perfectly okay and normal. The only people who are supposed to know about such details are jewelers and the people who write about diamonds for a living.

The first C of diamonds is color. This determines the shade of white of your diamond. Most diamonds are white, but to varying degrees. The second C of loose diamonds is clarity.

This determines how perfect or imperfect your diamond may be. Since these stones are made in the earth naturally, it is safe to assume you will not find very many flawless ones. The third C of diamonds is the cut. This not only refers to the overall shape of the stone, but also to the lines cut within the stone that give it its luster. These lines are called facets. A brilliant cut diamond is said to have maximum luster. The last C of diamonds is carat. This is how your diamonds are weighed and measured. The larger the carat, the physically larger the stone will be.
